During COVID, I was a case investigator in my state. I was contacting a patient who when I made contact her was in her car driving in a massive ice storm to a hospital about one hour away from her home during GOOD weather with her husband who had COVID pneumonia. Both had COVID, he was seriously sick, and they were driving for what would probably be a treacherous 2.5 hour trip each way to because their insurer didn't have a hospital for them to go to nearby. I was very scared for BOTH of them. This is total insanity.
I was in medical research fore almost 20 years. I've said it before and I'll say it again: A for profit medical care system is antithetical to good outcomes.
